  • SURWASH Intervention in Seven Local Government Areas in Katsina State, Nigeria

“Transforming Lives, One Drop at a Time: Explore how SURWASH is enhancing the quality of life and fostering sustainable development across Katsina LGAs with improved access to clean water and sanitation.”

SURWASH operates in seven local government areas of Katsina: Charanchi, Batagarawa, Daura, Baure, Funtua, Kafur, and Kankara. Each location has been carefully chosen based on its distinct needs and potential for meaningful development.

Charanchi: Known for its vibrant markets and agriculture, initiatives here focus on improving water supply and sanitation facilities to support daily living and farming practices.

Batagarawa: This area is characterized by its educational institutions and a growing population. Projects aim to enhance hygiene standards in schools and public spaces, ensuring a healthier environment for students and residents.

Daura: As the birthplace of the current president, Daura holds both historical and political significance. Efforts here concentrate on modernizing water infrastructure and promoting sustainable water management practices.

Baure: A mostly rural area with a strong sense of community, Baure’s programs include constructing and maintaining clean water sources while educating locals about the importance of sanitation.

Funtua: One of the major economic centers in Katsina, Funtua’s initiatives are designed to support industrial growth by ensuring reliable access to clean water for both residential and industrial use.

Kafur: Recognized for its scenic landscapes and agricultural significance, Kafur benefits from projects that secure irrigation systems and establish effective sanitation networks to enhance agricultural productivity.

Kankara: Recently highlighted in the news due to security concerns, Kankara focuses on rebuilding trust and community resilience through comprehensive improvements in water and sanitation.

These projects collectively aim to enhance the quality of life, health, and economic opportunities across these diverse areas of Katsina. See Table 1.

  • SURWASH Intervention in Five Local Government Areas in Plateau State, Nigeria

SURWASH Intervention in Five Local Government Areas in Plateau State, Nigeria

“Unlocking the Future: A Journey Through Innovation and Imagination” SURWASH Intervention in Plateau State

In Plateau State, SURWASH operates in five local government areas (LGAs): Langtang North, Wase, Jos South, Bokkos, and Mangu. Each LGA presents unique challenges and opportunities for enhancing water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) standards.

Langtang North is renowned for its agricultural activities, focusing on integrating WASH programs with farming practices to ensure sustainable water use. Wase, which has a diverse population, requires tailored approaches to meet the varying WASH needs of its communities.

Jos South, a more urbanized area, faces the challenge of providing adequate sanitation facilities in densely populated neighborhoods. Characterized by its rural landscape, Bokkos needs substantial efforts to develop infrastructure that can withstand the region’s climatic conditions. Mangu, celebrated for its cultural heritage, offers an opportunity to incorporate traditional knowledge and practices into modern WASH strategies.

The upcoming SURWASH Independent Verification Agent (IVA) assessment for 2024 will occur in four LGAs: Jos South, Bokkos, Mangu, and Wase. This assessment aims to evaluate the progress and impact of SURWASH initiatives, ensuring that the programs effectively meet the needs of the communities. The data collected from this assessment will guide future interventions and policymaking to enhance overall WASH standards in Plateau State.
